How to Use Shatter | Harvest Bloom Cannabis Delivery
A note from our CEO in response to COVID-19

As more states legalize cannabis for medical and recreational use, the number of cannabis products continues to increase. Today, there are various types of concentrates on the market, which you can use in a variety of ways. One such concentrate is called shatter. If you’re curious about how to use shatter, here’s what you need to know.

What Is Shatter?

Shatter is a type of cannabis concentrate. The process of making it involves using liquid butane and heat to extract cannabinoids and other beneficial compounds from plant material. The result is a brittle, honey-colored substance with a high concentration of THC. Where flowers generally have a THC content of less than 30% (some are a bit higher), shatter contains anywhere from 50% to 80% (some may be as high as 90%). It only takes a small amount for fast-acting, long-lasting effects.

Ways to Use Shatter

Shatter has many applications. While many use it for dabbing, others incorporate it into other methods of consumption. The biggest thing to remember is that it needs to be decarboxylated first. This means that it needs to be heated to activate the THC. The following methods decarboxylate the concentrate for you, allowing you to enjoy almost immediate benefits.

Vaporize It with a Dab Rig

Dabbing is one of the most common applications for shatter. It also involves the use of a dab rig, a nail, and a torch. While this might sound like a lot, dabbing isn’t nearly as difficult as it initially seems.

To dab shatter, you first need to break off a tiny piece (start with one the size of a crumb). Next, heat the nail with the torch until it’s extremely hot. Let it cool for several seconds (this avoids combustion and a harsh hit). Apply the shatter to the nail using a dabbing tool (don’t use your fingers!) and begin inhaling slowly. Use a carb cap to control airflow and finish inhaling. When you’re ready, breathe it out.

 Add It to a Joint

If you’re new to the world of cannabis, dabbing may not be the best way to get your start. If you’re interested in using shatter, however, you can get your feet wet, so to speak, by adding a small amount to a joint with ground flower. You can also add it with your flower to the bowl of a cannabis pipe. While this method does waste more shatter, it can help you to figure out if you like it’s potent effect, or not.

Inhale It with a Vape Pen

Another option is to vaporize shatter in a vape pen. To do this, you’ll need a pen that you can add concentrates to. Place a small piece of shatter on the coil in the chamber. Push the button while the chamber is still open to start melting the concentrate. Next, close the chamber and put the lid back on. When you’re ready, push (and hold) the button and begin inhaling slowly.

Like other concentrates, shatter is extremely potent, so a little bit goes a long way. Start with a very small amount to avoid inhaling too much THC and experiencing some rather unpleasant side effects. If you’re interested in giving it (or any other cannabis concentrate) a try, check out the selection at your local dispensary.
