Live Resin Sauce Insights | Harvest Bloom Cannabis Delivery
A note from our CEO in response to COVID-19

There have been a whole host of new cannabis products hitting the market recently. One that’s become incredibly popular is live resin sauce. Also called terp (short for terpene) sauce or just sauce, it’s a type of concentrate that provides a unique experience thanks to its terpene content. We’ll go over what live resin sauce is, and just what it is that makes this concentrate so popular.

What Is Live Resin Sauce?

Live resin sauce is a type of cannabis concentrate that looks like clear crystals covered in an amber-colored liquid. The liquid part is known as a high terpene extract (HTE). It has a high concentration of terpenes and a relatively low cannabinoid content (compared to other types of concentrates). The solid “crystals” are THCa crystalline. THCa is the precursor to THC, the cannabinoid renowned for getting you high. The precursor itself is inactive and doesn’t produce the same effects.

How It’s Made

Sauce falls into the category of concentrates extracted using solvents. Extractors take flash-frozen cannabis buds and expose them to liquid butane to pull out the desired compounds. Why frozen buds? Flash-freezing quality cannabis preserves the terpenes in the plant, which is crucial for live resin sauce.

The first step of making it involves exposing the frozen plant matter to liquid butane. This process extracts the terpenes, cannabinoids, and other compounds from the plant. Next, a gentle heat helps to evaporate the butane, removing the chemical from the extraction.

The second step involves aging the extraction. The liquid is poured into jars and stored in an area just above room temperature. It remains there for two to three weeks.

During the aging process, pressure builds in the sealed jars, and crystals begin to form. They sink to the bottom while the terpenes rise to the top and form a gooey substance. When they’re ready, the terpene layer and the crystals are separated and purged. They’re then rejoined and packed into containers. The final product is a terpene-rich sauce with a cannabinoid content of 30% to 50%.

What Sets It Apart?

One of the biggest differences between live resin sauce and other concentrates is the cannabinoid content. Where most concentrates have as much as 80% (or even 90%) THC, sauce only has between 30% and 50%.

What really sets the sauce apart from other concentrates, however, is the terpene content. Most other concentrates have a small concentration of terpenes, as many are destroyed during the extraction process. With live resin sauce, the goal is to preserve the natural terpene profile. As a result, the product is more aromatic and more flavorful. The other significant benefit is that maintaining the original terpene profile (and concentrating it) helps to enhance the entourage effect, enabling you to get the most out of your high.

Live resin sauce provides an experience, unlike any other cannabis concentrate. The preservation of the terpene profile adds a delicious flavor and aroma, and it enhances the entourage effect, giving you a complete high. Are you interested in giving it a shot?
